Minamoto no Akichika (源顕親)

MINAMOTO no Akichika (1088 - 1160) was a government official during the late Heian period. He was of the Murakami-Genji MINAMOTO no Akifusa lineage. He was the son of MINAMOTO no Masatoshi, who was a Gon Dainagon (a provisional chief councilor of state). His mother was the daughter of TAKASHINA no Tameie, who was the Governor of Bicchu Province. MINAMOTO no Akishige and MINAMOTO no Akitoshi were his maternal half-brothers. His children were MINAMOTO no Masanori, MINAMOTO no Toshimitsu, MINAMOTO no Toshinaga and the wife of FUJIWARA no Kinyuki. Akichika held the posts of Ukyo Gon no daibu (Provisional Master of the Western Capital Offices), Jiju (chamberlain), Governor of Harima Province, and Kogogu no suke (Assistant Master of the Empress's Household) for FUJIWARA no Taishi. In 1144, he became eligible to enter the Imperial court. In 1155, Akichika served as the administrator for the funeral service of Kayanoin (FUJIWARA no Taishi). The highest rank he held was Shoshiinoge (Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade). In his later years, he entered priesthood and died in 1160 at the age of 73. Akichika owned a mountain villa called Umezu-dono Palace, the ownership of which was passed on to FUJIWARA no Tadamichi after his death.
